Day Seven
Today, let’s put it all together by reflecting on all that your have experienced this week.
Set aside 30 minutes on your calendar to sit with a few questions. You’ll want this time to be distraction-free, so plan on turning your phone off and being unavailable.
DAILY REFLECTION
Let’s start by
BREATHING
Take three deep breaths to settle your soul.
When you are ready,
INVITE GOD INTO THIS MOMENT.
Ask God to eliminate the noise and to speak to your body, mind and soul.
SLOWLY READ
Jeremiah 17:21-23 MSG
“‘This is God’s Message. Be careful, if you care about your lives, not to desecrate the Sabbath by turning it into just another workday, lugging stuff here and there. Don’t use the Sabbath to do business as usual. Keep the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded your ancestors. They never did it, as you know. They paid no attention to what I said and went about their own business, refusing to be guided or instructed by me.”
Mark 2:27-28 NIV
And He said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath."
REFLECT
Take time to look back over the last week of your journal. As you read, contemplate all the things God has spoken to you.
What comes to the surface?
Was there a theme that emerged?
What is God saying to you about practicing the Sabbath?
ASK GOD A FEW QUESTIONS
God, what would be the fruit from my life if I took one day a week to stop, rest, delight and worship God?
God, what would it look like for me to practice the Sabbath?
LISTEN
Embrace the silence and fight the urge to speak. Be in the presence of God and listen for his voice.
WRITE IT DOWN
Grab your journal and write down your thoughts and anything God may be speaking to you.
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
Write out two or three key actions God is asking you to do to begin practicing the Sabbath. This could be one new step forward or an entire overhaul.Do your best to limit your intentions to less than three actions.
If you need help, use the series of statements below.
For me to practice the Sabbath weekly I must _____________.
God is asking me to enter into his rest by practicing the Sabbath. To do this I will ______________, and ____________.
Now, schedule it. Commit to making it happen by first eliminating what needs to from your life and then adding back the practices that will bring spiritual fruit.
