Day Two
Set aside 15 minutes on your calendar to sit with a few questions. You’ll want this time to be distraction-free, so plan on turning your phone off and being unavailable.
DAILY REFLECTION
Let’s start by
BREATHING
Take three deep breaths to settle your soul.
When you are ready,
INVITE GOD INTO THIS MOMENT.
Ask God to eliminate the noise and to speak to your body, mind and soul.
SLOWLY READ
Deuteronomy 5:12-15 NIV
Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns, so that your male and female servants may rest, as you do. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.
ASK GOD A FEW QUESTIONS
Why is it hard for me to simply sit still?
What do I believe about being productive and “getting things done”?
LISTEN
Embrace the silence and fight the urge to speak. Be in the presence of God and listen for his voice.
WRITE IT DOWN
Grab your journal and write down your thoughts and anything God may be speaking to you.
DAILY ACTION
Now that you have your Sabbath scheduled, let’s prepare for it. Think of the three most critical things on your task list that would prevent you from “stopping”. They could be simple things like having enough groceries or yard work. Or, they could be bigger obstacles like your kids' sports schedule. Either way, make a plan to take care of those things in advance so you will be mentally free to stop being productive on Sabbath.
