Day One
Set aside 15 minutes on your calendar to sit with a few questions. You’ll want this time to be distraction-free, so plan on turning your phone off and being unavailable.
DAILY REFLECTION
Let’s start by
BREATHING
Take three deep breaths to settle your soul.
When you are ready,
INVITE GOD INTO THIS MOMENT.
Ask God to eliminate the noise and to speak to your body, mind and soul.
SLOWLY READ
Genesis 2:2-3 NIV
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
Exodus 20:7-11 NIV
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
ASK GOD A FEW QUESTIONS
When was the last time I felt deeply rested?
What do I believe about intentional rest?
In a given week, am I working from rest or to rest? Why?
LISTEN
Embrace the silence and fight the urge to speak. Be in the presence of God and listen for his voice.
WRITE IT DOWN
Grab your journal and write down your thoughts and anything God may be speaking to you.
DAILY ACTION
Let’s take the first step towards practicing Sabbath by pulling out your calendar. Look at your week and set aside a dedicated period of time this week for you to practice your first Sabbath. We encourage you to push yourself outside your comfort zone by scheduling an entire 24 hours period. However, if your schedule does not permit, just be intentional about the time you set aside.
